Those of us at Benicia Smog Center believe there's usually no need for that clutching feeling in the throat when you receive your DMV Renewal Notice in the mail. Today's testing machines are accurate and most well-maintained vehicles achieve the state's new and tougher standards.
"If your car is running good it's going to pass," says owner Bill Wachob. I have worked 16 years in the local automotive repair business and I have come to the understanding that if you take your car in for regular servicing by a mechanic the likely- hood of your car not passing is slim.
We are a Test-Only Shop, and 15 percent of vehicles are referred to facilities like ours. Our service bay is a state-of-the-art testing machine with rollers that actually bring the car up to testing speed, part of the state's new and tougher Smog Check II requirements. This new procedure actually simulates how the car acts when it drives on the road. The old method required a car to be put into idle and revved up to 2500 rpm. But in "the real world" people don't sit there with their foot on the pedal at 2500.
My brother Mike and I opened this shop with the intention of bringing the highest level of service to YOU- our customers.
